SafeSitter Courses
Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital will offer Safe Sitter® courses from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., June 23, July 17, and July 30. The cost if $40. This course helps teens aged 11 and up feel more confident in their ability to care for younger children. It can even help them feel more comfortable staying home alone. Safe Sitter® courses have helped more than 650,000 adolescent babysitters across the country learn basic live saving and safety techniques. This medically-accurate program instills students with confidence as they learn how, why and where injuries can happen so they can be prevented.
The up-to-date curriculum provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques designed to prepare babysitters to act in an emergency. Babysitters also receive instruction on how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behavior and how to run their own babysitting business. They also learn basic CPR and first aid, as well as how to perform infant and child choking rescue. (Basic life-saving skills taught at Safe Sitter® do not result in a certification).
