DESCRIPTION:Shirley Heinze Land Trust will host its annual Spring Benefit on Saturday\, May 19\, 2018\, at 5:30 pm\, in the James B. Dworkin Center at Purdue Northwest's Westville campus. The public is invited to participate in the event which will raise funds to support the work of the organization. RSVPs are requested by Friday\, May 4\, 2018.\n\nThe evening will begin with a champagne reception and hors d'oeuvres\, followed by an elegant dinner. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in both live and silent auctions. Auction offerings include a Costa Rica Getaway for Two\, an Exquisite Fine Wine Basket\, our ever-popular "Mystery Dinner\," a Guided Hike for Ten with John Bacone\, Director of the Division of Nature Preserves for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources\, and two Ticket Vouchers to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Century of Progress Tour\, plus much more. \n\nThis year's "Funding the Future" paddle auction will feature a very special $1 for $1 match opportunity to establish a permanent operating fund for the organization's long term land conservation and preservation efforts. \n\nTickets and Sponsorships may be purchased through the Spring Benefit link on the Shirley Heinze Land Trust website\, www.heinzetrust.org\, or by contacting Bonnie Hawksworth at 219-242-8558 or bhawksworth@heinzetrust.org. Live and Silent Auction items will be available for preview on the event website. \n\nSince 1981\, Shirley Heinze Land Trust has protected\, restored and maintained northwestern Indiana's rich and significant natural communities\, including tallgrass prairie\, high dune\, oak savanna\, boreal flatwoods\, dune-and-swale\, woodlands\, marshes\, swamps\, ponds\, fens\, bogs\, and riparian habitat. More than 2\,400 acres in Lake\, Porter\, LaPorte\, and St. Joseph Counties have been preserved for the public's benefit. Shirley Heinze nature preserves feature significant scenic and ecological value\, and most are open to the public for hiking and enjoying nature. Five of its properties have been dedicated to the people of Indiana as state nature preserves. The organization also works to educate people of all ages to appreciate the importance of land conservation\, and to experience the natural wonders of this unique region.
