Institute for Excellence in Memory Care Announces Certification Course Schedule in St. Joseph County

SOUTH BEND, IN, January 4, 2019 - The Institute for Excellence in Memory Care, a division of Alzheimer's & Dementia Services of Indiana, announced its certification course schedule for the first quarter of 2019. Dementia Care With Heart © will be offered in both St. Joseph County and Indianapolis. Dementia Care With Heart © is one of three nationally recognized certification curriculum by the Alzheimer's Association, meeting the ten components for the standards of dementia care.
 
The Certified Memory Care Professional (CMCP) Training is designed for direct care staff and their leaders who wish to advance their education to the next level. Upon completion of this 21-hour course, which satisfies the HFA CE requirements, each student will earn their certification as a CMCP Provider.
 
The Qualified Memory Care Professional (QMCP) is an advanced level certification and includes three sessions of CMCP with two additional sessions specifically designed for Directors and Managers focusing on operations, regulatory issues, leadership skills, building a dream team, and teaching adult learners. Upon completion of this 35-hour course, which satisfies the HFA CE requirements, each student will earn their certification as a QMCP Provider. 
 
Patricia Piechocki, CTRS, QMCP, CDCP is the instructor for the certification courses in both locations. She is the IEMC Program Director, a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist who has worked in the memory care field for more than 25 years. Piechocki is certified through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, the Alzheimer's Foundation of America as a Certified Dementia Care Partner, and is an Expressive Arts Care Train the Trainer through the University of Indianapolis. She specializes in the development and management of specialized memory care programs, dementia care programming, person-centered dementia care, training and consulting, resident assessment, mentoring dementia care directors and activity staff, and volunteer development for memory care.
 
The five-course certification series in St. Joseph County will be held at the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545 from 8:00 am to 4:30 on the following dates:
