he La Porte County Symphony Orchestra will be celebrating the opening of its 43rd season with "FANFARE"; a tribute to our veterans, on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at the Civic Auditorium in La Porte. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. The concert is made possible by generous support from Beacon Health System and 1st Source Bank.
Maestro Philip Bauman and the musicians will be welcoming the LCSO Children's Chorus, under the direction of Matt Nelson; the La Porte High School Orchestra, under the direction of Pete Collins and former Mayor Leigh Morris as narrator. The Michigan City High School Marine Corp Junior ROTC will provide a Color Guard and HONOR FLIGHT CHICAGO will be featured during the evening.
Several selections will honor our veterans such as "American Fanfare", "Armed Forces Salute", "Thank You, Soldiers" sung by the LCSO Children's Chorus accompanied by a video presentation and "Liberty For All", narrated by former La Porte Mayor, Leigh Morris. This work will combine excerpts from several famous American speeches of George Washington, Patrick Henry and John F. Kennedy.
HONOR FLIGHT CHICAGO's mission is to thank and pay tribute to our heroes by bringing them to Washington, D. C. for a day of honor and remembrance at no cost to them. Len Sherwinski of HONOR FLIGHT CHICAGO will be joining us to spread the word of this incredible group of men and women who are continuing to do so much to honor our veterans.
The concert will conclude with the LPHS Orchestra joining the LCSO in performing Tchaikovsky's beautiful "Serenade for Strings" and the powerful last movement of Dvorak's "New World" Symphony, with the haunting theme, "Goin' Home".
