Shirley Heinze Land Trust St. Joseph County Community Hike
Don't miss this opportunity to visit and learn more about our first project in St. Joseph County known as Lydick Bog Nature Preserve. Shirley Heinze Land Trust protected this 176-acre property in 2016. The property contains wetlands interspersed with high ridges and islands of upland forest, and one of the last remaining bog habitats in Indiana. Access to the preserve is by guided hike only until appropriate parking and trail infrastructure can be developed.
Remarks will begin at 10am, with guided hikes of the preserve to follow led by Shirley Heinze experts. During the short program, we will present our plans to reforest 20 acres of agricultural fields, restore upland forest and wetlands, and develop trails and amenities so that this special place can be enjoyed by the public. Join us to learn more about this exciting project and the progress that has been made so far! Light refreshments will be offered.
